Monmouth Falls in Series Opener at College of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Kevin Madden hit a pair of home runs to lead the College of Charleston to a 9-1 win over the Monmouth University baseball team in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Friday afternoon. 
 
The Cougars grabbed the early advantage with a pair of runs in the top of the first. 
 
Madden extended the home team's advantage to 4-0 with the first of his two home runs in the fourth. 
 
College of Charleston scored three more runs in the sixth and led 7-0 in the contest. 
 
The Hawks broke through on the scoreboard in the seventh. Joey Ventresca drove a single back up the middle with two outs and Phil Stahl scored on the play. 
 
The Cougars added two more runs in the eighth, which made the final score 9-1. 

NOTES
- College of Charleston moves to 4-0 all-time against the Hawks.  
- Harry Padden reached base in all four of his plate appearances for Monmouth. Padden was 3-for-3 with a walk.
- Joey Ventresca had his first multi-hit game of the season. The senior finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Chris Andrews extended his hit streak to five straight games with a single.
- Phil Stahl extended his on-base streak to 11 straight games after reaching on a walk.
- Casey Caufield pushed his hit streak to four straight games. 
- Dante Ciaramella had a pair of strikeouts in relief work for the Hawks. He needs four more strikeouts to reach 100 for his career.   

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- College of Charleston out hit the Hawks, 12-7 in the game.  
- The Cougars had eight extra base hits in the game.   
- Jake Brink earned the win on the mound for College of Charleston. He tossed seven innings and surrendered just one unearned run on four hits while striking out six. 
- Drew Helmstetter suffered the loss for the Hawks. He went 5.2 innings in the start and gave up five runs on six hits while striking out four.
