WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University Softball Team fell to Hofstra, 5-3, in the series finale Sunday afternoon at MU Softball Park.
After allowing a run in the first, Monmouth starting pitcher
Billie Kerwood held the Pride off the scoreboard in each of the next three innings. The Hawks took the lead with two runs in the third – one off a
Mackenzie Bloss (3-for-4) single to left and another on a
Bri Lawson groundout – and scored again on
Abby Warner's fourth home run of the season.
Â
Hofstra responded with a three-run fifth inning to reclaim the lead, 4-3, and added run No. 5 on an insurance single in the seventh. The Hawks would bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom half of the frame, but the Pride were able to hold on for the victory.
