Monmouth Breaks Out the Bats in Win at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Monmouth University baseball team plated a season-high 12 runs in a 12-7 win over George Mason University on Sunday afternoon. 
 
George Mason scored a run in the bottom of the first before the Hawks got the bats going in the top of the third. Matt Scrivanic led off the frame with his first career home run to left center. RBI singles from Erica Sabato and James Harmstead extended the Monmouth lead to 3-1. 
 
The Patriots tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. 
 
Another RBI single from Harmstead in the top of the sixth gave Monmouth back the lead, 4-3. 
 
The Hawks broke things open with six runs on four hits in the top of the seventh. The big blows in the inning came from Phil Stahl and Jay Bant, who each had a two-run single.
 
Monmouth got two more runs in the top of the ninth and limited the damage that George Mason could do in the bottom of the ninth to close out the 12-7 win.

NOTES
- George Mason took the weekend series by a 2-1 margin and now leads the all-time series with the Hawks 5-4.
- Matt Scrivanic hit his first career home run in the top of the third. Scrivanic is the seventh different Hawk to homer this season.   
- Casey Caufield had a pair of hits on the day. He recorded his sixth multi-hit game of the season and has hit in eight straight games. 
- Austin Denlinger extended his hitting streak to six straight games with a pair of base knocks.
- Eric Sabato scored a career-high four runs in the contest. It is the most runs scored in a game by a Hawk this season. 
- James Harmstead finished with three RBIs in the game. He finished the weekend series with seven RBIs in three games. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- The Hawks outhit the Patriots, 15-5. Monmouth matched its season-high for hits (game one at Mercer). 
- It was the second time this season the Hawks have scored in double figures (10-Penn State, 12-George Mason). 
- The Monmouth pitching staff accounted for 10 strikeouts in the game. 
- Alec Couture earned his first win as a Hawk. He went 5.2 innings and gave up three runs on three hits while striking out five. 
- Dante Ciaramella had three strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief work while Jimmy Wigo had two strikeouts in the ninth.
- Konnor Eaton took the loss as he went five innings and gave up four runs on nine hits.

Monmouth returns to action on Friday, Mar. 15 when it begins a three-game set at St. Joseph's.
