Kaci Donovan scored a team-high 18 points as the Monmouth University women's basketball team fell to Stony Brook University, 78-62 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Sunday afternoon.Â

The Hawks had the hot shooting hand at the start as a traditional three-point play from
Taisha Exanor and a three-pointer from
Rosalie Mercille gave the home team a 14-4 lead with 3:24 on the clock. Monmouth pushed its lead to 16-8 before Stony Brook closed the first period on a 7-0 run. The Hawks held a 16-15 edge after one.Â

Buckets from
Kaci Donovan and
Sandrine Clesca put Monmouth ahead, 20-17 in the second period. The two sides traded points before a basket from Clesca at 6:49 tied the game at 24-24. Stony Brook responded with a 9-4 run and took a 33-28 lead with 3:02 left in the period. Monmouth made three straight from the foul line and cut the Seawolves' lead to two, 33-31. Stony Brook scored the final four points of the period and led 37-31 at the break.Â

Stony Brook opened up the third quarter on a 4-0 run and shot 73.3% (11-for-15) from the field in the quarter. Gigi Gonzalez scored 11 points in the period as Stony Brook pushed its lead to 68-43 after three periods of play.Â

Monmouth outscored the Seawolves, 19-10 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as Stony Brook closed out a 78-62 win. Donovan had seven points in the period for the Hawks.Â
