DONOVAN PACES MONMOUTH IN LOSS TO STONY BROOK

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Kaci Donovan scored a team-high 18 points as the Monmouth University women's basketball team fell to Stony Brook University, 78-62 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Sunday afternoon. 
 
The Hawks had the hot shooting hand at the start as a traditional three-point play from Taisha Exanor and a three-pointer from Rosalie Mercille gave the home team a 14-4 lead with 3:24 on the clock. Monmouth pushed its lead to 16-8 before Stony Brook closed the first period on a 7-0 run. The Hawks held a 16-15 edge after one. 
 
Buckets from Kaci Donovan and Sandrine Clesca put Monmouth ahead, 20-17 in the second period. The two sides traded points before a basket from Clesca at 6:49 tied the game at 24-24. Stony Brook responded with a 9-4 run and took a 33-28 lead with 3:02 left in the period. Monmouth made three straight from the foul line and cut the Seawolves' lead to two, 33-31. Stony Brook scored the final four points of the period and led 37-31 at the break. 
 
Stony Brook opened up the third quarter on a 4-0 run and shot 73.3% (11-for-15) from the field in the quarter. Gigi Gonzalez scored 11 points in the period as Stony Brook pushed its lead to 68-43 after three periods of play. 
 
Monmouth outscored the Seawolves, 19-10 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as Stony Brook closed out a 78-62 win. Donovan had seven points in the period for the Hawks.

- Stony Brook has now won three of the last four meetings between the two sides and leads the all-time series, 5-3. 
- Despite the loss, the Hawks remain in a tie for third place in the CAA standings with William & Mary and Charleston. 
- The Hawks registered their largest crowd of the year (1,781) on National Girls and Women in Sports Day. 
- Monmouth recognized a representative from each female team at halftime as part of the National Girls and Women in Sports Day festivities.
- Kaci Donovan led the Hawks with 18 points in the contest. It was her 13th game this season in double figures. 
- Belle Kranbuhl led the Hawks with six rebounds. She was one of 10 Hawks to record at least one rebound in the game.  

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth shot 41.2% from the field while Stony Brook posted a 44.6 field goal percentage. 
- Both teams hit five three-pointers in the game and both teams went 15-for-20 from the foul line. 
- Stony Brook held a 39-32 edge in the rebounding battle. It was just the fourth time this season the Hawks have been outrebounded by an opponent. 
- Stony Brook scored 24 points off of Monmouth turnovers in the contest. 
- Monmouth's bench outscored the Stony Brook bench, 24-11. 
- Stony Brook held a 16-13 edge in second chance points. 
  
NEXT UP
Monmouth is back in action on Friday, Feb. 9 when it travels to Northeastern for a 12 p.m. game. The Hawks will be looking to tie the 2002-03 team for the longest road win streak in program history at eight.
