DEFENSE HELPS HAWKS EXTEND ROAD STREAK AT NORTHEASTERN

BOSTON, Mass. – The Monmouth University women's basketball team used a lock down defensive effort to secure a 50-41 win at Northeastern University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Friday afternoon. The Hawks secured their eighth straight road victory and tied the longest road win streak in program history.
 
The two teams went back-and-forth to start the game at Sophia Carlisle hit a lay-up at 4:08 that put Northeastern up 10-7. Monmouth responded by closing out the first quarter on a 10-4 run and led 17-14 after one. Ariana Vanderhoop and Rosalie Mercille had three-pointers during that stretch. 
 
The Hawks outscored the Huskies 10-5 run in the second quarter and pushed its lead to 27-19 at the break. Belle Kranbuhl paced the Hawks with six points and a block in the stanza. The Monmouth defense limited Northeastern to a 15.4 field goal percentage in the second period. 
 
Monmouth scored 10 of the first 14 points in the third quarter and pushed its lead to 37-23 with 5:08 showing on the clock. Vanderhoop and Jania Hall knocked down three-pointers in that stretch to help the Hawks take their largest lead of the game. Northeastern closed the third period on a 9-2 run and cut the Monmouth lead to 39-32 with 10 minutes to play. 


Derin Erodgan scored the first bucket of the fourth for Northeastern and made it a 39-34 game. The Hawks rattled off the game's next six points and led 45-34 with 4:39 showing on the clock. The two sides traded points as Monmouth was 3-for-4 from the foul line in the final 30 seconds of the game to close out the 50-41 win.

- Monmouth won its second straight game against Northeastern. The Hawks, who picked up their first win over the Huskies in Boston, improve to 3-1 all-time against Northeastern.  
- Monmouth won its eighth straight road game, tying the 2002-03 team for the program record for road win streak. 
- The Hawks are tied with Gonzaga for the fourth longest current road win streak in the country.
- The 41 points allowed by the Hawks defense was the second fewest points allowed by a Monmouth squad under head coach Ginny Boggess (37-Dartmouth on 12/5/21). 
- Jania Hall had a team-high 11 points and seven rebounds for the Hawks. It was her 11th game this season scoring in double figures and her seven rebounds were a season-high. 
- Belle Kranbuhl finished just one rebound shy of a double-double as she had a season-best 10 points and added nine rebounds. 
- Boston native Ariana Vanderhoop had eight points in her return to her hometown.
- The Hawks improved to 10-1 on the season when they pull down 40 or more rebounds in a game. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth finished the game shooting 38% from the field and held Northeastern to a 31.5 field goal percentage. The Hawks shot 44.4% from the field in the first half to open up the lead. 
- The Hawks went 7-for-9 from the foul line while Northeastern was 3-for-4.
- MU dominated the rebounding battle, 43-26. Eight Hawks who appeared in the game grabbed at least one rebound. 
- The Hawks finished with six blocks in the game, their 12th game this season with six or more blocks. 
- Monmouth finished the game with a 26-20 edge in points in the paint. 
- The Hawks' bench accounted for 20 points in the game while holding Northeastern's bench to just five.
