SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mackenzie Bloss and
Ana Rodriguez each homered as the Monmouth University Softball Team defeated the Akron Zips for the second time in three days, 6-2.
Bloss (3-for-3, RBI, 2 R) connected on her second solo home run of the weekend in the top of the fourth to tie the game at two. Bloss scored Monmouth's first run in the top of the first on an error by the Akron catcher.
Tied at two in the sixth,
Bri Lawson (1-for-3) knocked in a pair of runs on a single to right center.
Ana Rodriguez (1-for-2) followed up Lawson's single with a blast over the left-center field fence to extend the Hawks lead to four.
Junior right-hander
Billie Kerwood was dominant in the circle for the Hawks as she struck out a career-high 13 batters.
Monmouth leaves the Wings Etc. Tournament with two wins – both coming over Akron – after dropping its Saturday games to No. 15 Kentucky and host USC Upstate.
