Monmouth Shuts Out Delaware For the 2-0 Win

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 2 (5-1-5, 2-0-3 CAA)
Delaware 0 (5-4-2, 1-3-0 CAA)

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Freshmen Victor Andersson and Jasen Bottini each scored a goal which helped the Monmouth University men's soccer team secure a 2-0 win over the University of Delaware in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Saturday night.

The Hawks came out and immediately applied the pressure on the offensive end, getting a pair of corner kicks and a shot that was saved by Delaware in the first 15 minutes of the contest.

Monmouth continued to fire off the shots but Delaware netminder Adam Vik had the answer.

The Hawks broke through on the scoreboard at 37:10 as Andersson scored his first career goal off a nifty pass through the defense from Patrick Osiecki.

Monmouth carried that 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.

Eryk Dymora came up with three big saves in the first 15 minutes of the second half which kept Delaware off the scoreboard.

Both teams pressured over the next several minutes looking for an opportunity.

Monmouth doubled its lead at 88:28 as Bottini picked off an attempted clear by Delaware and scored.

That sealed a 2-0 victory for the Hawks.
