WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW scored three times in the second half to secure a 3-0 victory over the rv/No. 16 Monmouth University men's soccer team in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Saturday afternoon.

The first 30 minutes of the contest were a back-and-forth battle as UNCW put a shot off the crossbar.

Monmouth continued to work hard, and
Jasen Bottini rattled off a late shot that was saved by Trey Smiley.

The two sides went into the half tied at 0-0.

Monmouth applied the pressure to start the second half, getting off shots from
Patrick Osiecki and
Carl Valgma that were saved by Smiley.

UNCW broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 62nd minute from Christian Acevedo.

The two teams traded shots before UNCW made it a 2-0 contest with a goal in the 73rd minute.Â

UNCW added one more goal in the 80th minute for a 3-0 victory.
