Hatcher and Andersson Honored by the CAA

October 21, 2024

RICHMOND, Va. – After leading the Monmouth University men's soccer team to a 2-0 week and first place in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) standings, Bastian Hatcher and Victor Andersson were honored as the league announced its weekly awards.

Hatcher earned CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week accolades while Andersson took home CAA Rookie of the Week honors.

Hatcher was honored for the second time this season. It is the third time this season that a Hawk has taken home defensive accolades (Hatcher – Sept. 23, Oct. 21; Eryk Dymora – Oct. 14).

Hatcher and the Hawks defense started their week with a 1-0 shutout of No. 12 Penn. Monmouth held Penn to eight shots in the game, and just one on goal. Hatcher scored the game-winning goal in the 78th minute as he headed home a ball from in front of the cage to help the Hawks beat their second No. 12 ranked team of the year.

On Saturday night, Hatcher and the Monmouth defense locked down for their fourth straight shutout, a 1-0 win over Elon. Hatcher and the Hawks limited Elon to just seven shots in the game, and just one on goal.

Hatcher now has two goals and one assist on the season while helping the defense post eight shutouts.

Andersson was honored for the first time in his career and becomes the second Hawk to earn rookie of the week honors this season (Jasen Bottini – Aug. 26).

Andersson played a key role in the Hawks earning a 1-0 win over Elon to take over sole possession of first place in the CAA standings. He knocked home the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute of the tightly contested contest.

Andersson now has three goals on the season, and all have been game-winners.

Hatcher, Andersson and the rest of the Hawks are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they visit UNCW for a 2 p.m. match.
