WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – A goal from Victor Andersson and a strong defensive performance powered the Monmouth University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Elon University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play Saturday night. 
 
The Hawks extended their current win streak to four straight matches and moved into first place in the CAA standings.
 
The first 14 minutes were a back-and-forth affair as the two teams battled between the boxes for the most part. 
 
The Hawks and Phoenix battled throughout the final 30 minutes of the period as both sides had their chances, but neither was able to capitalize. Monmouth and Elon went into the half tied at 0-0.
 
The Hawks increased the pressure to start the second half as Jakob Friedman had an early shot go just wide. 
 
Eryk Dymora made a big stop on an Elon shot in the 60th minute that kept things scoreless. 
 
Erik Reis put a couple of shots on goal but both were saved by Tomas Wroblewski. 
 
The Hawks broke through at 71:26 as Andersson was able to corral a rebound and drive it home for the 1-0 lead. 
 
The Monmouth backline locked down and limited Elon to just two shots in the final 18 minutes and both were off target. 
 
Monmouth continued to pressure on the offensive end and was able to close out it's third straight 1-0 win.

- The Hawks ran their current win streak to four straight matches. It is Monmouth's longest win streak of the season and the longest since the Hawks won five in a row during the 2021 season. 
- Monmouth moved into sole possession of first place in the CAA standings with 15 points. The Hawks hold the tiebreaker over both of the teams in second place (Hofstra/Elon). 
- The Hawks earned their first ever win over Elon and move to 1-1-2 all-time against the Phoenix. The two sides tied in both matches during the 2023 season. 
- The Hawks have recorded four straight shutouts and eight total this year.
- Victor Andersson's goal was his third of the season, all three have been game-winners.
- Eryk Dymora has now posted four straight shutouts for the Hawks and eight on the season. The eight clean sheets in a single-season are a career-high for the redshirt junior.
- Dymora has now held 12 of 14 opponents to one goal or less this season.
- The win was head coach Robert McCourt's 199th of his Monmouth career. 

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth out shot Elon 15-7 in the contest, including 8-4 in the second half. The Hawks put six shots on goal to Elon's one. 
- The Hawks recorded four of the contest's six corner kicks. 
- Eryk Dymora made one save to earn the win in goal for the Hawks.
- Tomas Wroblewski finished with five saves in the loss for Elon.
