Victor Andersson and a strong defensive performance powered the Monmouth University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Elon University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play Saturday night.Â

The Hawks extended their current win streak to four straight matches and moved into first place in the CAA standings.

The first 14 minutes were a back-and-forth affair as the two teams battled between the boxes for the most part.Â

The Hawks and Phoenix battled throughout the final 30 minutes of the period as both sides had their chances, but neither was able to capitalize. Monmouth and Elon went into the half tied at 0-0.

The Hawks increased the pressure to start the second half as
Jakob Friedman had an early shot go just wide.Â

Eryk Dymora made a big stop on an Elon shot in the 60th minute that kept things scoreless.Â

Erik Reis put a couple of shots on goal but both were saved by Tomas Wroblewski.Â

The Hawks broke through at 71:26 as Andersson was able to corral a rebound and drive it home for the 1-0 lead.Â

The Monmouth backline locked down and limited Elon to just two shots in the final 18 minutes and both were off target.Â

Monmouth continued to pressure on the offensive end and was able to close out it's third straight 1-0 win.
