Princeton Holds Off Monmouth For 1-0 Win

FINAL SCORE
Princeton 1 (4-3-0)
Monmouth 0 (4-1-5)

PRINCETON, N.J. – A goal in the final minute of the first half proved to be the difference maker as Princeton University claimed a 1-0 hard-fought victory over the Monmouth University men's soccer team on Tuesday night.

The majority of the first half was a battle in the midfield as both teams had chances to push forward but couldn't break through a pair of tough backlines.

Princeton used a goal from Ian Nunez at 44:38 to take a 1-0 advantage into the break.

The Hawks came out of the half with a renewed determination and fired off three shots in the first 20 minutes of the half but two went wide and one was saved.

Erik Reis rocketed off another shot on goal in the 66th minute but the Princeton keeper was able to get hands on it.

Jakob Friedman and Reis fired off a couple of solid shots in the final 10 minutes of the game but once again were stymied by the Princeton keeper.

The two sides continued to battle as Princeton closed out a 1-0 win.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"I was proud of the way our guys played tonight against a good Princeton team. We gave up a goal, but we bounced back very well and dominated the game for long periods of time. A few calls didn't go our direction and a couple of missed scoring chances. That's soccer. We are excited to get back on Hesse Field on the Great Lawn this Saturday for our next CAA game."
 – Monmouth Men's Soccer Head Coach Robert McCourt

- It was the 11th meeting all-time between the two schools who are separated by just 41 miles. Princeton leads the series 6-4-1 and has won each of the last two meetings.
- Emil Dyrseth made his first appearance of the season for the Hawks late in the first half.
- Erik Reis led the Hawks with two shots in the contest.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
