HAWKS BREAK MULTIPLE SCHOOL RECORDS AT COLUMBIA CHALLENGE

January 27, 2024

NEW YORK, NY – Four members of the Monmouth University Track and Field Team set program records at the Dr. Sander Invite/Columbia Challenge this weekend at the NYC Armory.

Junior Yasmeen Tinsley shined again as she bested herself atop the women's 60m hurdles list as she clocked in a new Monmouth record time of 8.48 seconds in the preliminary round for the event.

Jan Volkmar set a new top mark in the heptathlon as he finished in second place at the meet earning 4,978 total points. The new record, which was previously held by Zachary McDermott after his strong effort exactly eight years ago at Bucknell, by a staggering 340 points. Volkmar's mark currently leads the CAA and ranks 31st nationally.

Dylan Bonser re-broke his freshman record in the heptathlon and now ranks fifth all-time in school history after putting up a total of 4,501 points this weekend in the Big Apple.

Emily Simko experienced her top moment so far this track and field season as she set a new Monmouth freshman record in the women's mile with a sub-five time of 4:58.11. Simko's time leads all freshmen in the CAA as she sits with the sixth-fastest time in the conference this season.

The Hawks were victorious in two events, both coming on Saturday. Jordan Ricketts won the men's 400m race with a time of 48.82 – a new personal best and the ninth-fastest time ever by a Hawk in the event. Joining Ricketts in the winner's circle was Tomas Barry, Kevin Collura, Aaron Guensch, and James Martinez. The foursome recorded a winning men's DMR time of 10:05.66 which currently ranks 24th in the nation.

A handful of additional Hawks recorded Top Ten performances, as well. Declan McDonnell ran the third-fastest men's mile time in school history with a time of 4:03.02. Brianna Jucewicz ran a strong women's 3000m and now ranks ninth at Monmouth for her 9:57.62 mark. Jacob Brokaw nearly set the freshman record for men's triple jump, but still ranks ninth all-time after finishing with a personal best mark of 14.38m. Zay Battle threw the tenth-furthest weight throw at 18.79m, and freshman Garrett Boag recorded the ninth-most points in a single heptathlon with 4,131.

Overall, the Monmouth men placed fourth out of 19 schools at the event with 57 total points, while the women scored 18 points and placed 11th out of 21. Five Hawks placed inside the top-five for their respective individual events.
