HAWKS WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT WITH 1-0 WIN OVER ELON

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 1 (5-3-1, 4-0-1 CAA)
Elon 0 (1-6-3, 0-4-1 CAA)

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University women's soccer team posted its fifth straight shutout as the Hawks beat Elon University 1-0 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Tuesday afternoon.

The first half saw both teams have their chances, but neither was able to take advantage.

The Hawks fired off a couple of shots early but one went wide and the other was saved by Elon's McKenna Dalfonso. Elon's best chance came with about 10 minutes to go before the half. The Phoenix fired off three shots in just shy of three minutes, but Cassie Coster was able to get a hand on all of them.

The Hawks and Phoenix went into the half tied at 0-0.

Monmouth applied the pressure to start the second half and the Hawks were able to break through in the 69th minute. Elon was trying to clear the ball when Maddison Perna stepped in front of the clear. She settled the ball and passed it to a streaking Loren Gehret, who took it into the box and fired a shot past the keeper into the far corner.

The Monmouth defense locked in the rest of the way, allowing just one Elon shot in the final 20 minutes to secure the 1-0 victory.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"I'm glad we were able to find a way to win today and close out this stretch with nine points. Elon is always a tough team to play against as they are well coaches and defend with a lot of numbers behind the ball. I'm very happy to see one of our freshmen, Loren step up and score a special goal today. The weather the past three days didn't make for our best soccer but I'm proud of this group for being locked in and earning these wins together."
 – Monmouth Women's Soccer Head Coach Kylee Flynn
