STONY BROOK, NY – Monmouth University Baseball battled to get within a run, with
Aidan Bretschneider hitting his first career home run, but Stony Brook University held on for an 8-5 win in the weekend finale Sunday on Long Island.
Â
SBU took the early lead with three runs in the third, the latter two coming on a home run from Fox to make it 3-0. MU replied, getting two to cross in the fourth courtesy of a
Ben Winstead single and a
Mason Wolf sac fly to trim the deficit to 3-2. After Stony Brook made it 6-2, the Hawks used a big sixth inning to again get within one. Winstead singled with one down and Wolf drove him in with a triple, and Bretschneider followed with a two-run homer to trim it to 6-5. MU had two aboard in the inning after that, but could not find the equalizer and Stony Brook tacked on two more to conclude the weekend with an 8-5 final score.
