BASEBALL FALLS TO IN-STATE FOE RUTGERS TUESDAY 8-1

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Mason Wolf added two hits, but Monmouth University Baseball was defeated Tuesday by Rutgers University, 8-1.
 
Freshman David Horvath was effective through three, allowing just an unearned run. Rutgers struck for three in the fourth and two more in the sixth to widen the lead, before a Chris Brito double scored two more in the seventh to make it 8-0. MU sparked some offense in the eighth, with Andrew Schmid singling home a run to cut it to 8-1, the eventual final score.
 
NOTES


-This marked Mason Wolf's fourth multi-hit game of the season.
-Andrew Schmid drove in his first run since 3/29 at Columbia.
-David Horvath did not allow an earned run for the first three innings, matching a career-high with three K's.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-MU was outhit 9-4.
-Horvath took his first career loss, allowing two earned runs in four innings.
-Jake Marshall earned the win for Rutgers with three shutout bullpen innings.
