WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Jay Bant homered and
Austin Denlinger had four hits, but the Monmouth University Baseball team was defeated Sunday afternoon by the College of Charleston, 12-6.

After single runs in the first two innings by the visitors to take a 2-0 lead, MU struck back in the second. Bant hit his second home run of the season to make it 2-1, and the Hawks rallied to put four straight runners on base, with Denlinger doubling home the tying run with a blooper inside the right field line to make it 2-2.

The Cougars led 11-2 headed to the home fifth before MU racked up five hits in the inning, with
James Harmstead,
Matt Scrivanic and Bant all singling home runs to cut the deficit to 11-5. MU added another run in the eighth on Denlinger's fourth hit, an RBI single, but the Charleston bullpen allowed just one run in four innings to secure the win.

NOTES
-Denlinger posted his third four-hit game of the season, and the fourth overall by a Hawk this year.
-Bant's home run was his second this season.
-Bant put together a multi-hit effort for the fifth time this season, and third time in his last four appearances.
