CHARLESTON, SC – The Monmouth University softball team put together its strongest offensive outing of the 2023 season, which led to an 11-3 game one win before falling 3-0 in game two at the College of Charleston on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks scored 11 runs, recorded 12 hits, 10 RBIs, and drew 13 walks in the game one victory, all season highs for the club.

Junior
Abby Warner (1-for-2, HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, 3 BB) gave the Hawks an early 2-0 lead on her fifth home run of the season – a two-run shot to left in the top of the first inning. The Cougars would take the lead in the third, but Monmouth responded with a four-run fourth to regain the advantage, 6-3. The Hawks displayed solid patience in the frame by working five walks.
Francesca Torraca (2-for-5, 2B, RBI, SB) drove in the only run via a hit in the inning with an RBI double to left center.
Bri Lawson (2-for-5, 2 RBI) has a pair of RBI singles and
Julia Thuer (2-for-4, RBI, BB) added one of her own up the middle to extend the Monmouth lead. Sophomore
Billie Kerwood continued her strong 2023 with a complete game win striking out nine Cougar hitters on 130 pitches.
The Cougars kept the Monmouth bats quiet in game two, limiting the Hawks to just four hits and zero runs.
Kelly Toomey started her first game of the season and gave MU six innings while striking out eight but was credited with the loss. Monmouth left seven runners ln base in the 3-0 loss.
