CHARLESTON, SC – The Monmouth University softball team was defeated by College of Charleston, 6-3, in the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday afternoon.

Monmouth jumped out to an early 1-0 in the first on a leadoff walk to
Mackenzie Bloss (0-for-2, 2 BB, R) followed by an RBI double to left-center by
Eve Serrato (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI). The Cougars responded with three in the bottom half and added on to go up 6-1 through five innings of play.
In the top of the seventh, the Hawks made some noise.
Emily Churchill led off with a walk,
Francesca Torraca (2-for-3, R) singled, and Bloss walked again to load the bases with no outs. Serrato drove a run in on a sacrifice fly to center, and then
Abby Warner knocked in another on an infield single to cut Charleston's lead down to three. The Hawks had the tying run at the plate with one out, but the Cougars forced two infield pop ups to end the game and win, 6-3.
Billie Kerwood started her 20
th game for the Blue and White this season and went 3.0 innings with five strikeouts.
Kelly Toomey came on in relief and allowed just one unearned run while striking out a trio of Cougars.
