WEST LONG BRANCH, NY – Harry Padden homered and
Reed Interdonato struck out six, but Monmouth University Baseball dropped a pair of games to Northeastern University Friday, falling 14-6 and 9-5 in the twinbill.
Â
Game One saw Tyler MacGregor hit a three-run homer in the first to make it 3-0 Northeastern. MU answered with a
Phil Stahl RBI single in the bottom half, but the Huskies scored the next four to make it 7-1. MU answered with a big fourth, when
Brady Mutz notched Monmouth's third hit in a row, a double off the wall to score two.
Casey Caufield then singled in a run, and
Eric Sabato doubled home another to cut it to a two-run game at 7-5. Northeastern homered twice in the seventh to extend the lead, ultimately winning 14-6.
Â
In the nightcap, Interdonato was stellar, striking out six in four innings and allowing only an unearned run. The Huskies added three more unearned in the fifth and five in the seventh to make it 9-0, but Monmouth did not go quietly.
Harry Padden tucked a two-run homer into the left field corner to get MU on the board, and with two aboard, Caufield lined a single to center to score
Mason Wolf. The ball eluded the center fielder and went to the wall, allowing Caufield to come all the way around and make it 9-5 on the three-base error. Monmouth continued the big inning, loading the bases to bring up Padden as the tying run, but he was retired as the Huskies held on to the 9-5 lead.
