NEW YORK, NY – Phil Stahl and
Andrew Schmid homered for Monmouth University Baseball, but the Hawks were defeated Wednesday afternoon at Columbia University, 23-11.
Â
MU jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of bases loaded walks and an RBI ground out from
Aidan Bretschneider, his first career run driven in. After the Lions tied it in the bottom of the first, MU struck for four in the second, three coming on one swing as Stahl launched a three-run homer towards the scoreboard in left center to make it 7-3 MU. The Lions answered with nine runs to lead again, but Monmouth battled back, with Bretschneider driving in another before
Brady Mutz lined a double to right to make it 12-9. Schmid followed with his first career home run to dead center, a two-run shot that made it 12-11. Columbia would hold off MU the rest of the way and continue to tack on, ultimately winning 23-11.
