WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Seton Hall defeated the Monmouth University softball team twice in a Tuesday doubleheader at MU Softball Park. The Pirates won game one, 10-1, in five innings before earning a 3-0 victory in game two.

The Pirates used a three-run second and a four-run third inning to jump out to an early 7-0 lead in game one. Fifth-year senior Francesca Torraca singled to lead off the bottom of the third and advanced to second on a groundout, which allowed freshman outfielder Mackenzie Bloss to drive her in with a two-out single up the middle for what was the lone Hawks run on the afternoon. The Pirates continued to swing hot bats in the fifth to push the lead to 10-1, and they would hold on for the mercy-rule win following the bottom half.

The Hawks were able to put runners into scoring position in game two but struggled to bring them home as they left six on base. The Pirates scored a run in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, one via a solo homer. Billie Kerwood struck out eight hitters in 5+ innings of work, but was ultimately credited with the loss, falling 3-0.
