WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University Baseball opened its home slate on Friday dropping a CAA contest to Elon University, 12-5.
Austin Denlinger had four hits for Monmouth, including an opposite field two-run home run.
After Elon took a 7-0 lead, Monmouth chipped away. A
Phil Stahl sac fly got MU on the board in the sixth, and Denlinger's home run helped spark a rally in the eighth. His opposite field shot made it 7-3, and the Hawks put two more on ahead of
Harry Padden, who ripped a ball to left that forced Elon to make a great defensive play to end the inning. The Phoenix added five in the ninth before
Skyler Saunders drove in his first career runs for MU to make it 12-5.
