BASEBALL DEFEATS SETON HALL IN PITCHER’S DUEL, 2-1

EAST ORANGE, NJ – Monmouth University Baseball got six shutout innings from the bullpen and allowed just one run in the game as the Hawks downed in-state foe Seton Hall University, 2-1 Wednesday afternoon.

After SHU took a 1-0 lead in the second, Monmouth got even in the third. A walk and a ground out put Casey Caufield on second, allowing Eric Sabato to double to left to even things at one. MU took the lead in the sixth, when after two singles and with two away, Ben Winstead lined a single to center to make it 2-1, all the runs MU would need. Jake Fraher worked out of trouble in the eighth, with Harry Padden throwing out a runner at the plate, and locked down the ninth to earn the save.

A very well played baseball game with a great deal of solid play. Sabato and Winstead with some big two-out RBI's, a collective strong performance on the mound. The pitching was outstanding; a four-man contribution with the ability to make pitches when needed. Helmstetter, Tamburro, Miller, and Fraher competed all day and got the big outs when needed.Defensively, we made played hard, made some nice plays, none bigger than Harry cutting down the tying run late in the game." -  Head Coach Dean Ehehalt
