Bri Tinsley scored a team-high 11 points as the Monmouth University women's basketball team fell to Elon University, 57-48 on Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action.
Tinsley finished with 11 points and four assists while
Lucy Thomas contributed eight points, five rebounds and three steals.
Jania Hall came off the bench to add seven points in the game. Lenaejha Evans led Elon with 17 points and six rebounds while Evonna McGill added 14 points and three blocks.
The two teams went back-and-forth to start the first period. A pair of buckets from Thomas and
Kaci Donovan gave the visitors an early 6-4 lead. Elon scored the next eight points in the game and took a 12-6 lead. Thomas went 1-for-2 from the foul line in the final 25 seconds to tie the game at 12-12 before Elon scored at the buzzer for a 14-12 edge.
Buckets from Donovan and Hall early in the second helped the Hawks tie the game at 16-16. Elon scored nine of the next 11 points and opened up a 25-18 lead with 2:48 to go in the period. The two sides traded buckets over the final two and a half minutes as Elon took a 29-23 lead at the break.
Elon pushed its lead to 10, 35-25 on an Evans jumper, less than three minutes into the third. Tinsley and Thomas accounted for six of the game's next eight points and cut the Phoenix advantage to 37-31 with 3:12 showing on the clock. The home team took a 44-35 lead into the fourth.
Monmouth scored 11 of the first 17 points in the fourth quarter and cut the Elon lead to four, 50-46 with 3:54 to go in the game. Tinsley had five in that stretch. Elon closed the game on a 7-2 run to secure the 57-48 victory.

- Monmouth won the rebounding battle, 35-31. All nine Hawks who appeared in the game registered at least one rebound.

- After being held without a block for the first time all season on Sunday, the Hawks responded with three on Friday night.
- For the eighth time in 14 CAA games, the Hawks made at least 10 free throws in a game. Monmouth finished the game, 11-for-15 from the charity stripe.
- Monmouth scored 17 points off 16 Elon turnovers in the game.

Belle Kranbuhl had a pair of blocks in the game, giving her 44 for the season and 140 for her career. She needs 10 more rejections to move into a tie for fourth on the career list at Monmouth.
