WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University Men's Basketball freshman guard
Abdi Bashir Jr. was named the Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, league officials announced Monday. Bashir scored 10 points per game this week, and converted 21 points against Lehigh.
Bashir shot a whopping 81.8% from three on the week, making nine of 11 and nine of his first 10. He had a breakout game against Lehigh, going for 21 points on 8-11 shooting in a game in which he made eight of his first nine shots. He totaled 40 points on the week, shooting 65.2% from the field in a three-win week for MU.
Bashir is the second Hawk this season to earn a CAA weekly honor, joining
Xander Rice, who was named CAA Player of the Week after Monmouth's win over West Virginia. Bashir is the first Hawk to earn CAA Rookie weekly honors since
Jack Collins, who did it twice last season.
