MONMOUTH TRIPPED UP IN ROAD CONTEST AT PROVIDENCE

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Ariana Vanderhoop scored a team-high 10 points as the Monmouth University women's basketball team fell to Providence College 57-40 on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the two sides. Providence opened up a 9-3 advantage with 5:51 to go in the period. Monmouth responded with a 7-2 run of its own and cut the Friars' advantage to one, 11-10 with 4:05 left on the clock. Taisha Exanor had four points in that stretch. Brynn Farrell had the final five points of the period as Providence took a 15-10 lead after one.
 
Providence outscored the Hawks, 13-4 in the second period and took a 28-14 lead at the break. 
 
The Hawks continued to battle in the third quarter. Providence scored the first bucket of the stanza, but Monmouth responded with a 13-6 run and cut the Friars' lead to 10, 37-27 with 2:43 to go in the period. Kaci Donovan had five in that stretch while Jania Hall tossed in four. The Hawks and Friars continued to battle as a late three from Jaye Haynes made it a 42-32 game through three. 
 
Monmouth cut the Providence lead to seven, 44-37 on a three-pointer from Vanderhoop with 7:43 to play. However, that was as close as the Hawks would get as Providence closed out the 57-40 win.

- Monmouth was playing its second game of the season against a Big East Conference team. The Hawks went 1-1 in those battles (win vs. St. John's, loss to Providence). 
- Belle Kranbuhl had five blocks in the game. It was the ninth time in her career that she has recorded five or more blocks in a game. 
- Kayla Richardson had a second half bucket for the Hawks. It was her first basket in a game since Feb. 3, 2022 as she's battled back from injuries. 
- Diamond Wiggins made the first appearance of her collegiate career in the first half. 
- Ariana Vanderhoop has now scored in double figures in four of the first five games this season.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth finished the game shooting 25% from the field while Providence posted a 39.3 field goal percentage. 
- The Friars won the rebounding battle 44-36.
- Belle Kranbuhl led the Hawks' efforts in the rebounding battle as she had nine. 
- Olivia Olsen led Providence with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the game. 
- The Hawks were altering shots as they finished with seven blocks in the game to the Friars' two.
