WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Northeastern University scored a first half goal and withstood a furious second half attack en route to a 1-0 win over the Monmouth University women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play.

The start of the first half was a back-and-forth affair as the two sides combined for five shots.

Northeastern broke through in the 25th minute as Monmouth attempted to clear the ball. The kick landed at the feet of the Huskies' Jessie Hunt. Hunt rifled a long shot and was able to get it past Cassie Coster

Northeastern carried that 1-0 advantage into the half.

The Hawks applied some serious pressure in the second half, spending a good chunk of the period in the offense end. Monmouth fired off 10 second half shots, including one that hit the crossbar but was unable to get the equalizer as Northeastern claimed the 1-0 win.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"It was an unfortunate result today. I'm proud of our players for a hard-fought second half. We created a lot of chances today; however it just wasn't meant to be in our favor. Many lessons were learned today, and we will make the improvements and adjustments to prepare us for our next competition."
