MONMOUTH CLINCHES PLAYOFF SPOT WITH WIN AT COFC

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 2 (7-4-2, 6-1-2 CAA)
College of Charleston 0 (2-9-4, 2-5-3 CAA)

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The Monmouth University women's soccer team clinched a spot in the upcoming Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament with a 2-0 victory at College of Charleston on Thursday night.

The Hawks applied the pressure straight out of the gate and were rewarded in the 10th minute of the game. Monmouth was awarded a corner kick on the near side, and it was inserted by Liza Suydam. She sent a ball into the box and Loren Gehret knocked it home for the 1-0 advantage.

Monmouth continued to find ways to get shots off, but College of Charleston's Savannah Barron made six saves over the final 35 minutes of the period and the Hawks took a 1-0 advantage into the break.

The Hawks and Cougars battled to start the second half. With the Monmouth defense locking down, the Hawks found a way to add an insurance goal in the 85th minute. Barron made the initial save on a Monmouth shot but the ball came right back to the feet of Summer Reimet and she rocketed a ball home.

Cassie Coster made one final save to close out the 2-0 win.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"Tonight's first half was our best half of soccer all year. The past couple of days we challenged our players to reflect on their play from Sunday and make the necessary adjustments needed to be more impactful in the final third. Not only did they buy into the changes, the team executed with urgency and fearlessness. This was the response we needed, and we couldn't be prouder of the effort displayed by all tonight."
