MONMOUTH TIES TOWSON FOR SEVENTH STRAIGHT SHUTOUT

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – A battle between two of the top teams in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) ended in a 0-0 draw for the Monmouth University women's soccer team and Towson University on Thursday night. 
 
Monmouth posted its seventh straight shutout to remain unbeaten in CAA action (5-0-2) this season.
 
The first half was a back-and-forth battle as both teams had their chances. Cassie Coster made a pair of saves for the Hawks, including a late shot fired off from the top of the box. Monmouth fired off seven shots in the first 45 minutes but was unable to find the back of the net. 
 
Monmouth and Towson went into the break knotted at 0-0.
 
The defenses locked in for both sides in the second half. The Hawks and Tigers each recorded two shots after the break but neither found the net and two teams settled for a 0-0 tie.

- It was the first tie in five all-time meetings between the Hawks and Tigers. The all-time series between Monmouth and Towson now stands at 2-2-1. 
- Monmouth's defense posted its seventh straight shutout and eighth of the season. 
- The Hawks have not allowed a goal since the 55th minute against then No. 6 Penn State on Sept. 3, a streak that totals 665 minutes. 
- Cassie Coster posted her 100th career save as a Hawk in her 29th career game at Monmouth.
- Coster's shutout gave her eight on the season and 17 for her career. She needs two more shutouts to move into the top five for career shutouts at Monmouth.
- The Hawks' eight shutouts this season rank 17th in program history for a single-season.
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Monmouth held a 9-8 edge in shots in the game. However, Towson was credited with three shots on goal to Monmouth's one. 
- Monmouth recorded five of the game's seven corner kicks. 
- Cassie Coster finished with three saves while Riley Melendez made one save for Towson.
- Julia Evernham, Liza Suydam and Ava Allen led the Hawks with two shots a piece.
