RICHMOND, Va. – After leading the Monmouth University men's soccer team to one of the biggest wins of the season, junior defender
Olle Brorsson was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week.
Brorsson, led the Hawks to a 2-0 victory at Stony Brook which moved Monmouth into a tie for first place, was honored for the first time in his career.
In the first half of a rainy contest at Stony Brook, Brorsson and the Hawks defense limited the Seawolves to four shots and just one shot on goal.
Brorsson helped the Hawks get on the scoreboard in the 50th minute. Monmouth was awarded a free kick and Brorsson headed it home for his first career goal. He helped Monmouth add to its lead just over five minutes later and Brorsson headed home his second goal of the day on a corner kick.
Brorrson and the defense locked down the rest of the way for their fifth shutout of the season.
Brorrson now has two goals and one assist on the season while helping the defense hold 13 of 14 opponents to one goal or less this year.
Brorrson and the Hawks travel to La Salle on Tuesday, Oct. 24 for a 7 p.m. match. The Hawks then return home to host Campbell on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. The Hawks are currently in a tie for first place in the CAA standings with one regular season contest remaining.
