WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Hofstra University scored a goal in each half to earn a hard-fought 2-0 victory over the Monmouth University women's soccer team in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Thursday night.
Cassie Coster made a couple of early saves to keep Hofstra off the board.
Hofstra got on the board in the 24th minute as Millie Davies intercepted a Monmouth pass and rifled a shot into the far corner for a 1-0 advantage.
The Pride carried the 1-0 lead into the half.
The Hawks applied the pressure early in the second half as Skylar Kuzmich was forced to make a pair of quick saves.
Hofstra added to its lead in the 60th minute with a goal from Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir.
Monmouth continued to press in the offensive end as
Maddison Perna had a chance on a penalty kick in the 87th minute. However, Kuzmich got a hand on the shot and knocked it away.
Hofstra secured the 2-0 win.
