WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Hofstra University scored a goal in each half to earn a hard-fought 2-0 victory over the Monmouth University women's soccer team in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play on Thursday night. 
 
Cassie Coster made a couple of early saves to keep Hofstra off the board.
 
Hofstra got on the board in the 24th minute as Millie Davies intercepted a Monmouth pass and rifled a shot into the far corner for a 1-0 advantage. 
 
The Pride carried the 1-0 lead into the half. 
 
The Hawks applied the pressure early in the second half as Skylar Kuzmich was forced to make a pair of quick saves. 
 
Hofstra added to its lead in the 60th minute with a goal from Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir. 
 
Monmouth continued to press in the offensive end as Maddison Perna had a chance on a penalty kick in the 87th minute. However, Kuzmich got a hand on the shot and knocked it away. 
 
Hofstra secured the 2-0 win.

But we need to figure out a way to overcome those obstacles in order to win in this conference. - Hofstra leads the all-time series with the Hawks, 4-0-3 following Thursday night's results. 
- Summer Reimet made her seventh start of the season and first since Sept. 17 for the Hawks.

- Hofstra held an 11-9 advantage in shots after outshooting the Hawks 8-1 in the first half.  
- The Hawks held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. 
- Skylar Kuzmich made four saves for Hofstra while Cassie Coster had three stops for Monmouth.
- Maddison Perna led the Hawks with two shots on goal in the game.
