WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Three second half goals powered the Monmouth University women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Campbell University in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play to close out the regular season.
Prior to the start of the match, the Hawks honored their nine seniors and graduate students.
The Hawks applied the pressure from the onset on the offensive end. Campbell's Stephanie Martelli was forced to make three saves in the game's first 10 minutes.
Despite outshooting Campbell 12-0 in the first half, the two teams went into the break knotted at 0-0.
Less than a minute into the second half, the Hawks found a way to break through and get on the board.
Loren Gehret took the initial shot that glanced off the Campbell keeper's hands and landed right at the feet of
Chloe Ferreira. Ferreira rifled it home for her first goal of the season a 1-0 Monmouth advantage.
Just under four minutes later, the Hawks struck again.
Lauren Bruno found
Liza Suydam off a free kick and Suydam poked one into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage.
Cassie Coster made a pair of saves on the only two shots she faced in the half.
The Hawks tacked on one more goal just before time expired.
Julia Evernham scored her fourth of the year to cap the 3-0 Monmouth victory.
