MEN’S SOCCER SHUTS OUT STONY BROOK, 3-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University men's soccer team picked up its first CAA win on Friday night, shutting out visiting Stony Brook 3-0.
 
Ben Zakowski opened the scoring for the Hawks in the 26th minute, converting on a feed from Griffin Tomas. Monmouth increased the advantage to two goals towards the end of the first half when the Seawolves were tagged for an own goal in the 39th minute.
 
MU added a third goal in the 79th minute when Brett Sieg fed a pass out in front for Gabriel Miranda who managed to find the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career. The Hawks backline allowed just five total shots on the night, with Eryk Dymora making two saves in his fifth shutout of the campaign.
 
NOTES
-This was just the second meeting between the two sides and first since 2011
-Monmouth is now 1-0-1 in the all-time series
-Dymora is second in the CAA and tied for fourth nationally with five shutouts
-Miranda and Zakowski both have a goal and an assist in league play
-Zakowski's goal was the 17th of his career
-Monmouth has won three of its last four games
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-The Blue and White had more shots, 16-5
-Ten of Monmouth's shots were on target compared to two for Stony Brook
-The Hawks earned slightly more corners, 5-4
-The Seawolves were called for 16 fouls while Monmouth was called for 13
-Three yellow cards were given out in the match—two to MU and one to the Seawolves
-Stony Brook tallied more saves, 8-2
