WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University men's soccer team fell in a tight conference battle to visiting Elon on Saturday afternoon, 2-1.
The Phoenix controlled play throughout the opening half and took a 2-0 lead into halftime after scoring in the 19
th and 40
th minutes. The Hawks were on the attack in the second half and found the back of the net in the 81
st minute when
Chris Morandi scored off assists from
Gabriel Miranda and
Luke McBeth.
Monmouth continued to push over the final nine minutes of the contest but could not find the equalizer.
NOTES
-This afternoon was the first-ever match between the Hawks and Phoenix
-Morandi's goal was the first of his career
-He's the fourth different goal scorer for Monmouth in 2022
-Miranda's assist represented the first point of his career
