MEN’S SOCCER SHUTS OUT LA SALLE, 2-0

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University men's soccer team got back in the win column on Tuesday night, shutting out visiting La Salle by a score of 2-0 at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.
 
After the ball was kicked out of the box on a set piece in the 56th minute, Jonas Lyshoj sent a pass back in towards Luke McBeth, with the latter finding the back of the net to break the scoreless tie and give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Monmouth struck again just five minutes later when Ben Zakowski scored for the second time this season following an assist from McBeth.
 
Both sides registered six shots and created several scoring opportunities in the first half, but the halftime score was 0-0. Eryk Dymora ultimately made four saves for the Hawks in the match, tallying his third shutout of 2022.
 
NOTES
-Tonight was the first time since 2008 that the Hawks and Explorers met on the pitch
-Monmouth improved to 5-7-1 all-time against La Salle
-McBeth and Zakowski are now tied for the team lead in points with five
-Both seniors now have two goals and one assist on the season
-Zakowski's goal was the 15th of his career
-McBeth found the back of the net for the fourth time in his career
-McBeth's three points represented the best single-game performance for a Hawk in 2022
-Kristian Loenvig and Santi Martinez-Sanchez made their first starts of the campaign
-Dymora is now tied for third in the CAA in shutouts with three
-Each win for Monmouth this season has been a shutout
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Monmouth took more shots, 18-10
-Seven of MU's shots were on goal compared to four for La Salle
-The Hawks won the corners battle, 6-0
-Fouls were nearly even, with La Salle committing 13 and Monmouth committing 12
-Three yellow cards were given out on the night—two to Monmouth and one to La Salle
