NO. 25 FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO NO. 7 SYRACUSE

<strong>WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – </strong>25<sup>th</sup>-ranked Monmouth University Field Hockey (2-3) fell to No. 7 Syracuse University (5-1) on Sunday afternoon, 3-0. This marked Monmouth's fourth straight contest against a ranked opponent in a run of six consecutive games taking on top-25 competition. Phileine Hazen made eight saves and posted a second half shutout.<br />  <br /> All three Syracuse goals came courtesy of Charlotte de Vries, with the first coming at 8:39 of the opening quarter. She then netted two just 3:59 apart, one coming off a corner, to extend the SU lead to 3-0.<br />  <br /> Monmouth had multiple corner opportunities in the second half and kept Syracuse off the board for the final 30 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the cage in the 3-0 defeat.<br />  <br /> <strong>NOTES</strong><br />  <br /> -Monmouth played against its fourth straight ranked opponent, and is slated to compete against six consecutive top-25 teams through next weekend.<br /> -Maggie Downs made her first career start in the midfield.<br /> -MU is now 1-3 against ranked opponents this season.<br /> -The Hawks are now 0-5 against the Orange all time.<br />  <br /> <strong>NUMBERS CRUNCH</strong><br /> -Katie Yoder had Monmouth's shot on goal, a strong opportunity in the second half.<br /> -Phileine Hazen made eight saves in cage for MU, including six in the first quarter.<br /> -The Hawks were outshot by the Orange 15-1.<br />  <br /> <strong>UP NEXT</strong><br /> -Monmouth heads to Harvard to take on the 12<sup>th</sup> ranked Crimson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16.<br />
