SOFTBALL DROPS PAIR OF CLOSE GAMES TO MANHATTAN

RIVERDALE, NY – The Monmouth University softball team (7-34, 2-10 MAAC) dropped a pair of close games to Manhattan on Saturday afternoon.
 
A three-run home run by Annie Moore in the third inning was all the Jaspers needed to take game one. Billie Kerwood threw all six innings for the Hawks, allowing three runs on four hits, four strikeouts, and four walks. Abby Warner picked up a hit in the final frame, while Julia Thuer totaled three walks.
 
Ava Metzger's two-out RBI single in the fourth inning provided all the offense in game two. Kylie Gletow tossed all six innings, scattering five hits while allowing just one run. The junior walked just one batter while notching five punchouts. Stavi Augur and Danielle Dominik each picked up one hit for the Hawks.
 
NOTES
-Kerwood's complete game effort was her seventh of the season
-Gletow crafted her sixth complete game
-Augur's double in game two was her ninth of the year
-Abby Warned picked up the first stolen base of her career in game one
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Both teams made one error in game one
-The Hawks left six runners on base in game one compared to five for the Jaspers
-Manhattan left six on base in game two while Monmouth left three
-Both Monmouth pitchers threw exactly 96 pitches in their respective starts

The Hawks will be back on the road tomorrow, April 24 for a doubleheader against Saint Peter's. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 12 p.m.
