SOFTBALL FALLS TO CANISIUS IN HOME DOUBLEHEADER

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Playing in its third conference series of the season, the Monmouth University softball team (6-28, 1-5 MAAC) fell in a home doubleheader to Canisius (15-14, 5-3 MAAC) on Sunday.
 
Monmouth pushed across five runs in game two including four over the final four innings. The team put up three runs in the fourth frame, with Lindsey Baron sending a two-RBI single to left field and Stavi Augur earning an RBI on a fielder's choice. Augur went 3-4 in the contest with three doubles and a run scored in addition to the RBI. Baron also went 3-4 with a triple and a pair of singles to go along with a run scored and two RBIs.
 
The Hawks managed to get three runners on base in game one, with Baron and Emily Spencer earning one walk apiece and Augur reaching on an error by the shortstop.
 
NOTES
-Baron's on-base streak was extended to 22 games
-Baron and Augur each picked up their first three-hit games of the season
-Briana Hoskins tallied her first hit of the season in game two on a bunt single
-Danielle Dominik and Kiley O'Rourke notched two hits apiece in game two
-Abby Warner threw out her 18th runner of the season in game one
-Lexi Castaneda started her fourth game of the season in game two, playing left field as the Flex
-Billie Kerwood was the starting pitcher in the first game while Emily Spencer started the second game
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Both teams left eight runners on base in game two
-Monmouth hit .353 as a team in the backhalf of the doubleheader
-Kylie Gletow pitched six innings in relief over both games, allowing just two earned runs
-Six Hawks had at least one hit in the second game
 
UP NEXT
The Hawks will travel up to Columbia University to take on the Lions on Wednesday, April 13. First pitch in the non-conference matchup is scheduled for 4 p.m.
