After the home team took the lead, Harmstead launched a solo shot over the wall in left center to tie the game at one in the second. MU took the lead in the second on a wild pitch before a three run third from George Mason made it 4-2.

Harmstead scored on an error in the fourth to trim the deficit to one, but the Patriots got it back in the bottom half to regain a two-run edge. MU got within a run in the sixth when Mason Wolf walked with the bases loaded, but Monmouth was unable to plate the equalizer in a 5-4 defeat.
