SOFTBALL GETS BACK IN WIN COLUMN AGAINST DELAWARE, 6-4

Monmouth Hawks (5-22, 0-0 MAAC) – 6
Delaware Blue Hens (17-11, 1-2 CAA) – 4

NEWARK, DE – In its final game before the start of MAAC play, the Monmouth University softball team (5-22) got back in the win column with a 6-4 victory over Delaware, one of the programs MU will face off against in the CAA next season.

Emily Spencer's two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh plated Lindsey Baron who started the inning with a single of her own. After going down in the count 0-2, Spencer fouled off four consecutive pitches before connecting on the seventh offering of the at-bat, giving the Hawks their first lead of the contest. Kiley O'Rourke followed Spencer with another RBI single, pushing across an insurance run for Monmouth when Stavi Augur scored from third.

Kylie Gletow, who entered the circle in relief with one out in the third inning, shut the door for the Hawks in the bottom of the seventh. On the day, Gletow tossed 4.2 scoreless frames, scattering five hits while picking up a strikeout in the final inning, tallying her third win of the season.

In the second inning, Eve Serrato singled to right field, allowing Julia Thuer to score from third to tie the game up at 1-1. The Blue Hens put three runs on the board in the bottom of the third, but the Hawks stormed right back in the top of the fourth, getting all three runs back and tying the game again. A leadoff walk from Thuer, a double from Spencer, and a hit by pitch by Abby Warner loaded the bases with one away. A pair of walks by Danielle Dominik and Baron along with an RBI single by Francesca Torraca evened the contest up at 4-4 entering the bottom of the fourth.
