COLLEGE PARK, MD – After having its first game postponed last night, the Monmouth University softball team (3-17) dropped two games on Friday to kick off its time at the Capital City Classic, hosted by Maryland University. The Hawks lost a close battle to Army, 4-2, in their first game before losing to the host Terrapins in game two by a score of 11-4.

Freshman Billie Kerwood went the distance once again in game one against the Black Knights, tossing seven innings while allowing nine hits, three earned runs, and striking out three batters. MU took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame following an RBI single by Kiley O'Rourke, which plated Lindsey Baron. They retook the lead in the bottom of the third after Baron tripled to center, bringing home Francesca Torraca.

Monmouth held a 4-3 lead after the top half of the third inning against the Terrapins, scoring three runs in the frame. Julia Thuer brought home Torraca after getting hit by a pitch, cutting the deficit to one run. Stavi Augur then reached on an error by the second baseman, which allowed both Baron and O'Rourke to score.
