WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ- Monmouth University's football team had 10 players honored by Phil Steele/Draft Scout on their All-America and/or All-Colonial Athletic Association teams after the 2022 season.
Jaden Shirden, who recently earned a multitude of All-America honors including AFCA, was named to the First Team All-America and All-CAA teams after leading the FCS in rushing. Shirden was named a finalist for the Walton Payton Award and was invited to banquet in Frisco where the winner will be announced.
The second team All-America featured punter
Ryan Kost, who had an FCS best 48.1 yards per punt and had 12 of his 30-punts sail 50+ yards with a long of 71 yards. Kosts' battery mate
Kent Vines earned Third Team honors after snapping on every punt, field goal and extra point this season.
Owen Wright was name Fourth Team All-America after after leading the CAA in touchdowns with 17, including 16 rushing scores. Wright finished with the fourth most touchdowns among all players in Division I and recorded a season-long run of 99 yards in a win over UAlbany.
Shirden, Kost, Vines and Wright were all named First Team All-CAA from Phil Steele/Draft Scout.
Explosive widout
Dymere Miller and stalwart offensive lineman
Justin Szuba were named to Phil Steele's All-CAA second team. Miller led all CAA wideouts in receiving yards per game, finishing with seven touchdowns and 820 receiving yards. Szuba anchored an offensive line that led the way for the conference's top offense and the nation's leading rusher in Shirden.
A pair of defenders in
Da'Quan Grimes and
Mike Reid were named to the third team. Grimes capped his career by leading the team with 81 tackles and two sacks. Reid finished with 12 passes defended, 52 tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception. Reid's 11 pass breakups were the fifth most in the NCAA.
Two more members of Monmouth's prolific offense, offensive lineman
Greg Anderson and wide receiver
Assanti Kearney, rounded out the fourth team. Anderson was a Third-Team All-CAA selection by the league's head coaches after proving to be one of the most physical offensive linemen in the league. Kearney had 37 receptions for 638 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 17.2 yards per reception in his breakout season.
