WBB FALLS TO BYU IN NON-CONFERENCE FINALE

PROVO, UTAH – A big second and third quarter helped power Brigham Young University to a 70-50 win over the Monmouth University women's basketball team on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Bri Tinsley scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Hawks in the contest while Lovin Marsicano added six points. Belle Kranbuhl had a game-high four blocks for MU. Arielle Mackey-Williams led five BYU players in double figures with 15 points while Lauren Gustin added 12 points and a game-high 21 rebounds. 
 
Tinsley got the Hawks off to a quick start as she scored on her first three shot attempts. MU grabbed a 14-13 advantage after 10 minutes of action. Mackey-Williams struck for 10 points in the second period as the Cougars outscored the Hawks, 19-9 and took a 32-23 lead at the break. The highlight of the second period was Antonia Panayides hitting a running three-pointer as time expired. 
 
BYU continued its strong play in the third quarter. Nani Falatea and Kaylee Smiler combined for 13 points and four assists as the Cougars pushed their lead to 56-37 with 10 minutes to play. The Hawks continued to battle in the fourth quarter. Jen Louro, Ella Farrelly and Marsicano all drained three-pointers for MU as BYU closed out the 70-50 win.

- Monmouth matched its season-high with 11 three-pointers made in the contest. Seven different Hawks all drained at least one triple in the game. 
- The Hawks had six blocks in the game, which is its second highest block total of the season.
- MU had six steals in the game and has now recorded four or more steals in all but one game this season.   

 NUMBERS CRUNCH
- Bri Tinsley has now scored in double figures in three straight games and seven times this season. 
-  Belle Kranbuhl had four blocks, which is her second highest block total of the season. That gave her 23 blocks for the season and 119 for her career. She needs just six more blocks to move into the top five for career blocks at Monmouth.
- Kranbuhl also led the Hawks with four steals on the day. That is a season-high for the junior center. That also matched her career-high.
- Tinsley led the Hawks with four drained three-pointers on the day. Lovin Marsicano added two while five other Hawks each hit one. That group included Ella Farrelly, who connected on the first of her career.

NEXT UP
Monmouth is back in action when Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play gets underway on Friday, Dec. 30. The Hawks will host Northeastern at 3 p.m. that day.
