MU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HEADS TO BYU ON WEDNESDAY

Opening Tip
• After a 10 day layoff for finals, Monmouth gets back to work as it visits BYU.
• This is the first ever meeting between the Hawks and Cougars.
Bri Tinsley and Ariana Vanderhoop each scored in double figures for the Hawks against Dartmouth. Both players have now scored in double figures in two straight games.
• Monmouth knocked down eight three-pointers against Dartmouth. The Hawks are 4-2 when they hit eight or more three-pointers on the year. 
Belle Kranbuhl had 10 rebounds against Dartmouth. It was her third game this season with 10 or more rebounds in a game. 
• Ten of the 12 Hawks who appeared in the Dartmouth game recorded at least one rebound. Five MU players have recorded 30 or more rebounds on the season. 
• Monmouth leads the CAA in blocked shots on the year. The Hawks are averaging 3.7 blocks per game.
• The Hawks had to travel over 2,000 from West Long Branch, NJ to Provo, Utah for today's game. It's the furthest the Hawks have gone from home since the 2019-20 season when they played at San Diego. 
• Head coach Ginny Boggess and BYU assistant Aaron Kallhoff share a common thread. Both served as an assistant coach for Carolyn Kieger at Penn State before taking their current positions.
• Monmouth is embarking on its first season as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
• Following today's game, Monmouth is back in action on Friday, Dec. 30 when it opens CAA play by hosting Northeastern.
 

FROM BEHIND THE ARC
MU knocked down eight three-pointers versus Dartmouth in its last contest. Bri Tinsley had a game-high four three-pointers in the contests while Ariana Vanderhoop connected on two. 

Monmouth is 4-2 on the year when it drains eight or more three-pointers in a game. Tinsley, Kaci Donovan and Jen Louro have all connected on 10 or more three-pointers this season. 

CLEANING THE GLASS
Belle Kranbuhl had a team-high 10 rebounds in her last game against Dartmouth. It was the junior center's third game this season with 10 or more rebounds.

Kranbuhl has pulled down at least two rebounds in each of the first ten games this season. She leads the team with 69 rebounds on the season and ranks 10th in the CAA while averaging 6.9 rebounds per game. Kranbuhl has 381 career rebounds in 57 games for the Hawks. 

GO WEST YOUNG LADIES
Monmouth traveled over 2,000 miles from West Long Branch, New Jersey to Provo, Utah for this contest. It is the furthest road trip of the season for the Hawks. It is also the furthest away MU has played from West Long Branch since it traveled to San Diego for a Thanksgiving Tournament during the 2019-20 season. 

SEEING DOUBLE
Bri Tinsley (19 points) and Ariana Vanderhoop (14 points) both scored in double figures for the Hawks against Dartmouth. The Hawks have had at least one player score in double figures in every game this season. Tinsley leads MU with six double-digit games this season while Vanderhoop has hit for double figures in three of the last four contests. 

NOT IN MY HOUSE 
MU has found success blocking the basketball throughout the first nine games of the season. The Hawks have 37 blocks and are averaging 3.7 blocks per game. That ranks first in the CAA this season. 

The Hawks are 4-2 this season when they record four or more blocks in a game. They had a season-high nine blocks in the win over NJIT. MU's efforts have been led by Belle Kranbuhl, who has 19 blocks so far this year. Her 1.9 blocks per game is among the top three in the CAA this season. Kranbuhl is one of six Hawks to record at least one block this season.

SIMILAR PATHS 
Monmouth head coach Ginny Boggess and BYU assistant coach Aaron Kallhoff have one stop along their coaching trails in common. Both served as an assistant coach under Carolyn Kieger at Penn State.

Boggess was on the Penn State bench from 2019-21 while Kallhoff served as an assistant for the Nittany Lions during the 2021-22 season. Both Boggess and Kallhoff also worked with current Monmouth Director of Basketball Operations Matt Gross, who was the head manager for the women's basketball team at Penn State.

MISS ASSIST
Bri Tinsley had a game-high six assists for the Hawks in their last outing against Dartmouth. It was the sixth time this season that Tinsley has handed out four or more assists in a game for the Hawks. She has dished out at least one assist in every game for MU this season.

As a team, the Hawks enter play this week ranked fourth in the CAA in assists per game (13.40). Tinsley currently ranks fifth in the CAA for assists per game (3.9) and fifth in assist to turnover ration (1.4).

GOING DEEP
Jen Louro has proven to be a threat from behind the arc during her Hawks career. She is 14th in career three-pointers having tied Helena Kurt with her 86th triple for MU against Dartmouth. She needs 22 more three-pointer to move into a tie with Gabby Singer for 13th with 108.

SCOUTING BYU
BYU is 4-8 on the year entering Wednesday's action. The Cougars fell at Portland on Monday night, 67-45. Lauren Gustin is averaging 15.6 points and 13.5 rebounds per game while Nani Falatea is chipping in 12.8 points per game with 55 assists.

Monmouth is back at it on Friday, Dec. 30 when it officially kicks off CAA play by hosting Northeastern at 3 p.m.
