WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University women's soccer team wrapped up its three-game homestand with a 3-1 victory over Hampton on Thursday afternoon.
For the tenth time this season, Monmouth got on the board first.
Chloe Ferreira sent a cross out in front to
Lauren Karabin who managed to head the ball past the Hampton goalkeeper in the 20
th minute, putting the Hawks up 1-0. In the 32
nd minute,
Summer Reimet drew a foul inside the box and was awarded a penalty kick which she successfully guided into the net, increasing Monmouth's lead to 2-0.
MU added a third tally in the 67
th minute of action when
Rachel Ludwick collected a deflected pass and sent a shot just under the crossbar, extending the advantage to 3-0. The Lady Pirates were able to cut the deficit to two goals less than a minute later, but the Hawks backline and freshman goaltender
Brooke McKown did not allow Hampton to find the scoresheet again for the remainder of the contest.
MATCH NOTES
-Today was the first-ever meeting between Monmouth and Hampton
