FIELD HOCKEY WINS 4-0 ON SENIOR DAY

FINAL SCORE
Monmouth 4 (8-7, 4-1 CAA)
Towson 0 (4-12, 0-5 CAA)

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University field hockey team clinched a berth in the CAA Tournament Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 victory over Towson at So Sweet A Cat Field in West Long Branch, NJ.

The Senior Day win is the fourth straight victory for the Hawks overall.

After a scoreless first half, Monmouth's Annick van Lange scored the game's first goal off a corner just 2:27 into the second half. Freshman midfielder Meis Kengen slid a pass to senior Bente Steenhorst, who then teed it up for van Lange to score her 17th goal of 2022.

In the fourth quarter, the Hawks found the back of the net three times within a span of 4:45.

Sophomore Jess Tucker scored her fourth goal of the fall on a deflection with 9:41 remaining in regulation. Senior midfielder Colleen Craven was credited with the assist on the play, sending a perfectly placed ball into the circle off a free hit.

Three minutes later, van Lange netted her 18th goal of the season after receiving a long pass from Kengen and firing a shot passed the Towson goalkeeper.

Shortly after, van Lange capped off her third hattrick of 2022 after corralling a pass from senior Aylin Aufenacker and sending another blast just inside the far post.

With her third goal of the game, van Lange tied Monmouth's single-season goal record with 19. Michelle Pieczynski's incredible 2011 season is the only other time a Hawk has scored 19 goals.

Freshman goalkeeper Phileine Hazen made two saves, and senior Ally Tarantino came into relief in the final five minutes to preserve the combined shutout for the Hawks, and improve to 4-1 in conference and 8-7 overall.
