FOURTH-QUARTER SURGE PUSHES MONMOUTH PAST QUINNIPIAC

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Monmouth women's basketball team outscored Quinnipiac, 23-8, in the fourth quarter to secure a 70-60 MAAC road victory on Thursday night, the program's first win over the Bobcats since 2017.
 
The Hawks (7-4, 2-0 MAAC) trailed by five, 52-47, to start the final frame but responded by shooting 8-of-14 from the field and 4-of-6 from long range, while holding Quinnipiac (6-6, 1-2 MAAC) to a 22-percent shooting clip. Jen Louro made three of the four Monmouth treys in the fourth for nine of her 11 points, while Ariana Vanderhoop delivered some timely baskets for seven points in the stanza.
 
Four Hawks finished with double figures in the scoring column, led by a 20-point performance from Stella Clark. The Sea Girt, N.J., native added four rebounds, four assists and four steals to her stat line. Belle Kranbuhl displayed her offensive prowess in the low post, logging 13 points to go along with nine boards and a game-high four blocks.
 
Louro and Vanderhoop combined to shoot 50 percent from the field for 22 points after they each scored 11. Vanderhoop also notched eight boards and four helpers. Off the bench, Lucy Thomas chipped in with nine points.

-The Hawks are 2-0 to open MAAC play for the first time in program history.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Monmouth shot 47 percent from the field as a team.
-The 70 points were the most scored against Quinnipiac by a Monmouth squad since Feb. 25, 2008.
-The Hawks connected on 9-of-15 (60%) of their treys.
-It was the first time since Feb. 6, 2021 that the Hawks shot at least 60 percent from deep as a team.
-Monmouth assisted on 54 percent of their made shots.
-The Hawks outrebounded the Bobcats, 45-40.
-Monmouth scored 49 percent of its points from inside the paint.

Monmouth will be back in action on Jan. 15 to take on Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for a 7 p.m. MAAC contest.
