MEN’S SOCCER PLAYS SACRED HEART TO SCORELESS DRAW

FAIRFIELD, CT – Despite a 35-12 advantage in shots, the Monmouth University men's soccer team played Sacred Heart to a scoreless draw on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Redshirt senior Sean Murray (Fanwood, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) recorded his third shutout in the last four games, saving three total shots.
 
Sophomore Bastian Hatcher (Oslo, Norway/The Norwegian College of Top Sports) led the Hawks with seven total shots. Junior Ben Zakowski (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) and Luke McBeth (Glasgow, Scotland/Saint Ninians/Lindenwood each added five.
 
Monmouth's record stands at 2-1-2 on the season, and the team will host Binghamton this Saturday.
 
NOTES AND QUOTES
 
"The team played very well again today, but just could not find a way to beat their keeper. We have been on the road for three in a row now, so we are looking forward to another home game this Saturday." – Monmouth head coach Robert McCourt
 
-Monmouth outshot Sacred Heart 8-3 in the first half, including 3-1 on goal.
-In the second half, the Hawks recorded a whopping 18 shots, including three on goal.
-Zakowski and McBeth each sent a shot on goal in the second overtime period, but the Sacred Heart goalkeeper stopped both.  
 
NUMBERS CRUNCH
-Murray has allowed just one goal over the last 396 minutes. He recorded the 10th shutout of his career and now has 216 saves.
-Monmouth held a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks.
-The Blue & White sent eight shots on goal, compared to the Pioneers' three.
-The Hawks are 8-4-3 dating back to last spring.
-Freshman Jonas Lyshoj led Monmouth with two shots on goal.
 
UP NEXT
Monmouth will host Binghamton this Saturday at 4:00 PM. In both 2018 and 2019, the teams ended in a 0-0 double overtime draw.
