KANSAS CITY, MO – Monmouth University Basketball earned recognition from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) for the second consecutive year, being named a recipient of the Team Academic Excellence Award, while guard Sam Chaput (Longueuil, Quebec/Saint Anthony's [TX]) became the ninth player in school history to earn a spot on the NABC Honors Court.
To earn a Team Academic Excellence Award, the NABC recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2020-21 season. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a player must be academically a junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above at the conclusion of the year, and must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
Overall, the Hawks have seen nine players named to the NABC Honors Court, including seven during the
King Rice era This marks the fifth straight season MU has been represented by a student-athlete, with Chaput following last year's selection of Sam Ibiezugbe.
Chaput is a rising senior for the Blue and White, and played in all 20 games last season. He led Monmouth with 58 assists while posting a 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, averaging 21 minutes per contest at the point guard spot
