WOMEN’S SOCCER HOSTS NIAGARA IN MAAC QUARTERFINAL


WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's soccer team begins its pursuit of a fifth consecutive MAAC Tournament championship as the No. 3 seed in this season's postseason. 

The Hawks will host No. 6 seed Niagara on Friday evening at 5 p.m. at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Each participating student-athlete will be allotted two tickets for family members to attend MAAC Tournament games played at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn. Tickets will not be sold to the general public.

TOURNAMENT NOTES
Siena was crowned as the MAAC women's soccer regular season champions following a 4-0-1 record in league play. The Saints' title ended Monmouth's record run of seven consecutive MAAC regular season championships.

Monmouth went 3-1-2 overall in its six-game compacted regular season schedule, including a 2-1-1 record at home. The Hawks and Purple Eagles did not meet during the regular season.

The Hawks were led offensively by sophomore midfielder Maddison Perna, who scored four goals in six starts, including a pair of game-winning goals. Jesi Rossman added two goals on the year, while four other Hawks found the back of the net. Defensively, the Hawks allowed five goals in six games with a pair of shutout wins against Iona and Canisius. In goal, freshman Rebecca Winslow made five starts and allowed three goals in 433:46 for a 0.62 goals-against average. 

As a team, Monmouth has outshot its competition 83-44, with a 37-20 shots on goal advantage. The Hawks earned 54 corner kicks and surrendered 18. 

Monmouth leads the all-time series against Niagara 16-1-0, including 16 consecutive victories and eight straight shutouts. Monmouth and Niagara have met in the MAAC postseason each of the past three years, with the Hawks claiming a 1-0 victory in Lake Buena Vista, FL in 2017 and back-to-back 3-0 wins in 2018 and 2019 at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.

MONMOUTH IN THE MAAC TOURNAMENT
Monmouth is 12-2 all-time in the MAAC Tournament, including a 6-2 record at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn. The Hawks have won conference titles in 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 to earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. Monmouth is looking to become the first MAAC team to win five straight MAAC Championships since Loyola Maryland won five in a row from 2000-04.
